![]() ![]() Wii U accomplishes all of this extremely quickly - we ran the GamePad alongside a PlayStation 3D screen with 33ms display lag, and via high-speed photography we noted absolute parity in the refresh. Call it wishful thinking on our part, but we couldn't help but hope for similarly impressive results from PlayStation 4.Īll of these streaming gameplay set-ups are based on very similar principles: the current frame is grabbed from memory by a hardware encoder, compressed into h.264 video, beamed over WiFi to the handheld, then decoded and displayed on-screen while control inputs are transmitted back to the host. Since then, Nvidia's Shield has come along - not quite as impressive right now, but great stuff nonetheless, with a new update coming up soon that promises significant improvements. Nintendo's Wii U GamePad established the notion of decoupling from your HDTV and playing remotely with excellent image quality and no noticeable lag. Bet you can’t do better than me Derek(fellow SC member).PlayStation 4's Remote Play connection with PS Vita is exciting stuff - a value-added extra with the potential to revitalise the fortunes of Sony's under-performing handheld. Get your mates on this game and see who can get the highest score, fun awaits. The funky graphics, involving gameplay, and hectic shooting is addictive. Resogun is a great game, currently free on PS Plus in the UK, and is a must buy for arcade lovers. Read a more in-depth look at playing Resogun, using the PS Vita remote play function, on Sony’s handheld here. “The remote play works great, and if this is what all PS4 games are like on Vita this feature will sell consoles.” It spoke in a robotic voice telling me to “SAVE THE LAST HUMANS”, awesome. The futuristic tunes add to the experience, and I got a shock when my controller spoke to me. ![]() Playing the single levels and building up to Arcade mode might be the best option for less experienced players. For those who love a challenge, or find rookie too easy, they can work towards unlocking the master difficulty.Īn Arcade mode also exists for players looking for even more challenge. Losing concentration can cost you big, and knowing when to use powers like ‘bomb’ that clears all the current enemies can be tricky. The true selling point of Resogun is the high octane battle of endurance. But hey, the giant beam firing at enemies still looked cool. In return I had a less powerful ‘overdrive’ ability. Finding a ship that suits you play style will take a few goes, me personally I preferred a faster ship. You notice the lovely graphics during the boss battles, or at least I did.Ĭhoosing a ship, out of three, is an important part of the game. Not that it is a bad thing, definitely not, it’s just a sign of how involving the game is. Not that you get time to enjoy the graphics, at some points you are so focused on not losing lives that some of the games glam is, arguably, wasted. So, how does the game look? As you can tell from the photo above, it’s funky. Mastering the controls, while they are simple, will take a lot of trial and error. You can also use a throw button, this lobs a human hopefully towards a safety point. While the majority of the time it’s about using one stick for mobility and the other for shooting, other times see’s you having to time the use of the three abilities you have ‘Drive’, ‘Overdrive’, and ‘Bomb’. The controls, as mentioned this is a twin-stick shooter, are simple. On another note, It’s quite funny when you use the ‘throw’ ability to chuck humans towards the safety points, take that humanity! At first I missed the humans quite a few times, failing in the process to take them to their designated safety points losing points or other bonuses in the process. This can actually be quite challenging, due to the games cylinder layout. The game itself is a twin-stick arcade shooter, where you have to kill enemies while trying to save little green humans. You can imagine this game in Japan, with a crowd of people around an arcade machine competing for the top score. If I had to describe Resogun, or try to, it would be a nod to the arcade days. For this reviewer Drive Club wasn’t of much interest, however the subtraction of the driving sim from the launch line up still stung, a little. ![]() Nobody went out and bought a PS4 for Resogun, if you did correct me, but does that mean it’s a bad game? Absolutely not, for anyone who bought their PS4 with PS Plus, or had it prior, this was an awesome surprise. Let’s be honest, Resogun isn’t a system seller. “You can imagine this game in Japan, with a crowd of people around an arcade machine competing for the top score” We take a look at our first next-gen title, including the PS Vita remote play option, right after the break. ![]()
